Background

The results of the 2005 Coastal towns parking review showed support in principle for the introduction of a controlled parking zone (CPZ) in Seaford. In January 2007 we asked for comments from residents and businesses in Seaford on the proposed design of a CPZ for the town.

If parking controls were introduced in the town centre, it is likely that some parked cars would be displaced into surrounding streets. Therefore, we asked for your views about the possibility of a controlled parking zone that extends beyond the area where most parking problems currently occur.

We wanted to find out whether residents of surrounding streets would prefer to be included in any controlled area or to stay outside.

The maps below show the proposed controls that could be introduced in each street, with the final decision about the extent the scheme depending on the comments received.

We designed a CPZ which we believed would:

• provide a turnover of parking spaces in the town centre
• prioritise parking for residents
• provide dedicated disabled and loading facilities in the town centre
• protect access at junctions and passing places by using waiting and loading restrictions.

The closing date for comments was 12 February 2007.
