Review of Pupil Referral Units, Primary Behaviour Support Service and Pupil Retention Grant in East Sussex
This consultation closed on Friday 19 October 2007.
When changes to the way permanently excluded pupils are educated have been agreed, they will be published on this page.
The consultation
From September 2007, we became responsible for ensuring that all permanently excluded pupils are provided with full-time education from day six of their exclusion.
This is a considerable reduction from the previous 16-day time limit. Currently, we are almost entirely dependent upon Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) to educate excluded pupils who are not attending schools.
We plan to expand the provision on offer to include more than just PRUs. However, PRU provision will remain central in both ensuring permanently excluded pupils are offered their educational entitlement and in supporting schools to reduce permanent exclusions. We are now reviewing the current organisation and operation of PRUs so we can inform our future plans for alternative provision.
This consultation looked at your views on the current delivery of Primary Behaviour Support and the allocation and movement of Pupil Retention Grant in secondary schools.
