Change to people receiving Adult Social Care – non residential services

Reviewing the charges for services that help people stay at home

We have reviewed our ‘fairer charging policy’, which sets out how we charge for services that help people to stay at home, such as home care.

As part of this review, we asked for your views on the changes we proposed.
The consultation period ran from December 2006 to March 2007.

What happened as a result of the policy review and consultation

We are planning to bring together the charges for day care and for home care services. This will make sure that you receive a fair financial assessment that takes into account all of your circumstances and costs, and is fair and consistent for everyone.

We would like to change the way we:

  • identify and calculate disability related expenditure
  • charge for day care service
  • calculate and implement the assessed contribution.

The reasons for the recommended changes, and a detailed explanation of the new allowances can be found in the ‘Fairer charging review’ below.

Timeline

  • We used your feedback to update our policy in March 2007.
  • Changes have already been made to the services we provide, beginning in April 2007.
  • The updated policy and details of how we have improved our service will be published here later in the Summer of 2007.
