Transporting pupils to denominational schools

New arrangements for transporting pupils to denominational schools

This consultation closed on 30 March 2007, and responses were considered in a report to our Cabinet on 5 June 2007.

Changes came into force on 1 September 2008.

The Cabinet agreed a new charge to parents of £260 a year. This is the same as half the cost of providing a seat on a hired coach.

The new arrangements will apply to children admitted to denominational secondary schools from September 2008. Any help currently being given to children going to denominational schools will continue until the child leaves that school (except in sixth forms where different arrangements already apply).

In the future, only children from low income families will receive completely free transport in line with the Education and Inspections Act.
