Children's library survey
During three weeks in October 2007, staff in all East Sussex libraries asked children and young people about their satisfaction with the library service. The survey included questions about how they use the library and whether it meets their needs.
Results
Public Library User Surveys are carried out by all library authorities in the country. The results are used nationally to assess how well we meet the Public Library Standards, and by us to measure our performance and ensure we give best value for our services.
Our survey involved 3,120 children and young people. The results show:
- 99.1% considered the library to be a friendly place
- 99.9% were satisfied with libraries overall (rated good or okay)
- 82.9% said the books were good
- 71.8% thought the computers were good
- 98.3% thought homework help was good or okay
- 34.6% used books for homework and 23.1% used computers
- 55% said the library helped them to read better and 36.6% to do better at school.
Your impact
We are making changes to our services in response to your comments:
- the Council is spending an extra £100,000 a year on the continuous programme to improve library interiors.
- investigating ways of working with partners to build new libraries
- introducing new stock selection methods to increase the range and quality of materials
- looking at innovative ways of providing homework help online.
