Battle pedestrian and traffic improvements
We asked for your comments on our proposals for pedestrian and traffic improvements in Battle. The proposals include improvements to:
- pedestrian crossing facilities in the High Street
- pedestrian and disabled access from the east of Battle
- access to Battle train station for all transport users.
A review of the transport of freight on roads through Battle has also been carried out. The results can be downloaded, below.
These improvements were identified as part of the Battle Local Area Transport Strategy (LATS).
Consultation and results
The plans were displayed at The Battle Memorial Hall in October 2007 and are available to download below, along with the consultation report. The closing date for comments was Wednesday 31 October 2007.
The scheme designs were approved by the Lead Member for Transport and Environment on 17 December 2007.
We hope to put this scheme in place by 2009/10, subject to negotiations with third parties.
High Street zebra crossing
In September 2008, work began on temporary, trial improvements to the zebra crossing in Battle High Street. The crossing will then be monitored for six months so that any changes can form part of the final construction, planned for spring 2009.
You can download more details, including a drawing of these improvements, below.
