Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) services for young people
In 2006, proposals for the development of information, advice and guidance (IAG) services for young people in East Sussex were drawn up. These included proposals for commissioning services from April 2008 using the Connexions grant. These proposals are laid out below in 'Information, advice and guidance services for young people in East Sussex – consultation proposals'.
In order to inform these proposals, East Sussex County Council carried out a broad review of IAG services, exploring the views of stakeholders, including young people, about the services needed for the future.
In early 2007, we consulted with 2,081 young people, through a questionnaire devised by young people following several focus group meetings in Autumn 2006. A full report on the questionnaire consultation, prepared by the independent research company, SMSR, is available to download below in 'Annex A – East Sussex Review of Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) services for young people'.
We also consulted with 18 young people with special needs, in partnership with Xpress Advocacy, asking their views on IAG services. The results of this consultation are availabe in 'Xpress Advocacy IAG services report – June 2007' below.
The review of IAG services also included:
- Mapping of existing IAG services, including those provided through the voluntary and community sector. Information from the mapping exercise is available on request.
- Interviews with the managers of current IAG services.
- Focus group discussion with Connexions personal advisers currently providing services.
- Interviews with a number of key managers of other services for young people including a small number of school managers.
- A seminar in November 2006 attended by a wide range of stakeholders.
- Two focus group meetings in March 2007 for secondary school managers.
