Review of funding to mainstream schools for additional and special educational needs

Latest

See the follow-up consultation to this one: Special Educational Needs – funding for mainstream schools.

This consultation closed in December 2006. It looked at the way in which funds are passed to mainstream schools in East Sussex for SEN, additional educational needs and social deprivation.

There were three key consultation questions:

  • are the principles outlined in this document broadly the right ones?
  • are there any additional principles that should be considered?
  • what are the significant factors and issues that need to be taken into consideration?

This consultation about the general principles of the review of funding, was the first stage of a larger review process that was promised in the Autumn 2005 document, Special Educational Needs review – Next Steps. The full timetable is in Annex 1 of that document.

Results

All those who responded agreed with the principles suggested. The views of parents and carers were gathered via telephone contact, focus groups and discussion via schools. Parents will continue to take part in the ongoing consultation.

The results of this consultation do not affect the way in which special schools and special units and facilities are funded nor do they alter the funding for central support services.
