Rights of Way Improvement Plan 2007–2017
We had a duty to prepare and publish a Rights of Way Improvement Plan (ROWIP) by November 2007.
We wrote a draft plan, made it available to download from this site and asked for your comments. The closing date for this consultation was 23 March 2007.
During spring and summer 2007 we reviewed the draft plan against all the comments we received and amended it. The final plan is now available to download below.
Background
More than 2,000 miles of footpaths and bridleways provide routes to popular beauty spots in East Sussex. The Rights of Way Improvement Plan looks at where access to the countryside for the public could be improved. The plan assesses:
- the extent to which the local rights of way meet the present and likely future needs of the public
- the opportunities provided by local rights of way for exercise and other forms of outdoor recreation and enjoyment of our area
- the accessibility of local rights of way to blind and partially sighted people and others with mobility problems.
To achieve this, we aim to:
- improve the bridleway and byway network
- improve access for all, especially for disabled people
- improve access to the countryside from urban areas
- provide a selection of long distance paths and circular routes
- improve information about the rights of way network
- improve the path network by reducing its fragmentation
- resource the implementation of the Rights of Way Improvement Plan.
