Consulting on an equality strategy for Children’s Services
The aim of the consultation was to get your comments on the six key priorities, which staff identified as crucial to ensuring the Children’s Services department does not discriminate against any group. These six priorities are:
- effective data collection and monitoring
- ensuring fair access to inclusive services
- effective engagement with individuals and groups from minority backgrounds
- effective and inclusive commissioning and procurement
- ensuring personal safety and tackling harassment
- developing our workforce.
Through conversations with children and families from minority groups, and our work with many voluntary and community groups, we know that our services are not always perceived as open and accessible.
The Children’s Services department was established in summer 2005, incorporating staff from the former Education Department and the Children and Families Social Care service, based formerly within the Social Services Department. The aim of the new department is to provide seamless, coherent support to children, young people and their families.
This consultation closed on 1 September 2006. Results of the consultation and the final strategy documents are available at Better Outcomes for All – an Equality Strategy for Children's Services.
