Parking controls in Eastbourne – consultation results
In February 2006, in partnership with Eastbourne Borough Council, we carried out a public consultation on the possible extension of on-street parking controls in Eastbourne.
Find out more about the Eastbourne parking consultation – February 2006.
The closing date for sending us your comments was Friday 10 March 2006. A summary of the results and responses to a number of the key questions, by road can be downloaded below.
The main purpose of the consultation was to identify streets where there was support for the controls and streets where there was not.
The number of responses were higher than normal for this type of consultation and showed that:
- most residents in and immediately around the existing town centre Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ), said that they experienced parking difficulties during the day
- the streets in and around the CPZ are heavily parked during the day with a number of vehicles illegally parked
- most residents in most streets in and immediately around the existing CPZ said that they supported the introduction of parking controls in their road
- there was opposition from businesses to the introduction of parking controls across the entire consultation area
- residents and businesses raised concerns about the impact of proposed parking charges on business, tourists and visitors and low paid and voluntary workers.

A report containing recommendations based on the results of the consultation was submitted to Cabinet on 11 July 2006. The report Parking in Eastbourne (agenda item 9) is available to download from our Cabinet meeting papers page.
