Equality for disabled people – comment on the draft plans for East Sussex

We asked for your views about our draft Disability Equality Scheme.

Despite wide publicity across the county, including to disabled people’s organisations, we received only five comments on the draft document. However, these included one response made on behalf of an organisation of disabled people, and altogether the comments from both men and women came from a range of ages and disabilities.

All agreed that they were happy overall with the Disability Scheme. Two respondents raised specific issues concerning provision and accessibility for people with sensory impairments. We have passed these comments on to the appropriate departments where they will be taken into consideration when services and the accessibility of buildings are reviewed.

Once the Action Plans in the draft document have been updated, a final revised version of the scheme will be published here in late 2008. You can still download the draft and other related documents from our page about the wider East Sussex County Council Equality Scheme

Please note: Appendix 1 is the Disability Equality Scheme. This includes an action plan which outlines the main issues that the Council intends to tackle to help disabled people
