During three weeks in March 2006, staff at 12 libraries asked children about their satisfaction with the library service. The survey included questions about finding what they were looking for, and ordering items that are out on loan.
Results
Public Library User Surveys are carried out by all library authorities in the country. The results are used nationally to assess how well we meet the Public Library Standards, and by us to measure our performance and ensure we give best value for our services.
Our survey involved 1,359 children and young people. The results show:
- 99% considered library staff to be good or okay
- 97.8% were satisfied with libraries overall
- 87.2% said the books were good
- 82.1% thought their library looked good
- 5.7% thought space for study was bad
- 4.9% felt story tape provision was bad
- 2.5% were unsatisfied with provision for homework.
Your impact
We are making changes to our services in response to your comments:
- the Council is spending an extra £100,000 a year on the continuous programme to improve library interiors
- investigating ways of working with partners to build new libraries
- introducing new stock selection methods to increase the range and quality of materials
- looking at innovative ways of providing homework help online.
