We asked visitors to Bexhill, Eastbourne and Hastings libraries about our reference library services. This survey took place between November 2004 and August 2005.
Results
Our questionnaire found that our reference libraries were used by a wide variety of people, from students to the retired. Users visited for a number of reasons, including studying, making photocopies, or simply to meet people. The results included:
- 10 to 18% of those responding used the reference libraries daily, and 28 to 34% used them 2 to 3 times a week
- 87 to 93% found the information they were looking for
- reference books, newspapers and magazines, and free Internet computers were the services used most
- the majority of visitors were library members – 65% in Eastbourne, 80% in Hastings and 88% in Bexhill
- most visitors using Bexhill and Hastings libraries were local, while 18% of the visitors had travelled to Eastbourne reference library to use the services.
