Involving all older people in improving public services
We have developed a strategy that looks at ways to involve older people in improving public services.
The strategy is aimed at everyone over 50 living in East Sussex, including:
- older carers
- carers of older people
- groups who are heard less often.
It was developed by us along with partner agencies, including NHS organisations, Age Concern and other voluntary groups, as well as older people. The strategy was finalised in June 2005, after a three month consultation period.
The strategy includes East Sussex County Council’s action plan, which was approved by our Cabinet on 19 October 2005. Partner agencies are now being encouraged to prepare their own action plans.
Many older people’s forums have been established by groups of older people across the county, including a group of Black and Minority Ethnic Elders. If you would like to know more, contact Jessie McArthur (see below).
A conference
The strategy follows the ‘All Our Futures’ conference of September 2004, described below. A follow-up conference will take place in December 2005.
A leaflet
We have developed a leaflet which provides a brief overview of the ways to get involved.
