About me: Councillor Daniel Shing

Councillor Daniel Shing

Party: Independent

Division: Polegate, Willingdon & East Dean

I was elected as a county councillor for Willingdon, Polegate and East Dean in June 2009, having been a parish councillor and district councillor for Willingdon and Jevington for two years prior to the county council elections.

As a councillor, my priorities are to improve the living conditions of all residents within my division and focusing particularly on road safety, maintaining the condition of roads and ensuring that local residents are fairly represented.

But how did I get here?

I have been inspired by my father who is a successful councillor. Over the years, I have observed at first hand the importance of this role and the responsibilities that come with it.

I felt that with the skills I have obtained in the legal profession and the determination to make a difference, I would stand and bring in new ideas to the Council as a young councillor, and to raise issues which affect young people.

My community

The Willingdon area and South Downs has always been known for its beautiful scenery. Spending time away at university made me appreciate how precious and important the community is.

Like all local residents, I share their concerns that the area is constantly under threat with new development, and I am proud of the fact that they are willing to join the fight in protecting our environment and precious green spaces.

It is always a pleasure to work with residents to make a difference for the community.

My home life

Since the age of 16, I have worked in the family takeaway at the weekends. In addition to this, I now practice full time as a solicitor.

My spare time

In the little spare time that I do have, I like to relax by socialising with friends, playing sports and exercising.
