About me: Councillor Tony Freebody
Party: Conservative
Division: Pevensey & Westham
I was elected councillor for Pevensey and Westham in June 2009.
But how did I get here?
I have lived in East Sussex all my life. I was born in St Leonards on Sea, and I moved to Eastbourne in 1996 to be nearer my place of work.
I have always had an interest in politics, but it was after my wife and I had 2 children that I realised just how much politics affects everyone’s lives, so I decided to become more involved. I decided to stand as a councillor so that I could make a positive contribution to the community.
My community
Pevensey and Westham is a great division within East Sussex. It is made up of many villages, each with its own unique character.
The people in my division are especially concerned about anti social behaviour, and the speed and volumes of traffic passing through the villages.
My home life
I live just yards away from the division with my wife and our 2 children. I also work in the NHS supporting people with learning disabilities, a job that I have been doing for almost 15 years and I still enjoy it.
Balancing home life, work and being a councillor isn’t easy, but it is a worthwhile exercise and a challenge that I am relishing.
My spare time
I don’t have much spare time. But I am a lead singer in a local classic rock band, our first ever gig was in none other than Pevensey Bay, we can’t have been too bad as some of the local residents voted for me at the election.
I am also a keen golfer, and I am always striving for the perfect round, but since being elected I have less time to play. This must be very pleasing for the trees on the golf course.
