About me: Councillor Phil Howson

Councillor Phil Howson

Party: Conservative

Division: Peacehaven & Telscombe Towns

I was elected councillor for the Peacehaven and Telscombe Towns division in 2005.

The key problems in my division are underage drinking and drug abuse and associated problems, such as vandalism.

But how did I get here?

I was a town councillor for Peacehaven between 1990 and 1997. I returned to serving Peacehaven Council in 2004 and have now been elected to the County Council in May 2005.

I also run a property maintenance business in the area.

My community

Having lived here for 30 years, I felt I had the ability to help others share the way of life in the east of the county.

There’s a great deal of pleasure in seeing ideas and events for the community come to fruition. It’s especially gratifying when you see how much pleasure some improvement brings to the community.

My home life

I’m divorced but have lived with my partner Norma for 10 years and her two children, Danny and Emma. My son Adam is a police officer in Surrey.

Being a county councillor is very rewarding and I would recommend it to anyone, although it is vital that you have an understanding partner.

My spare time

My interests include Formula One motor racing, DIY and travelling.
