My politics: Councillor Godfrey Daniel

Councillor Godfrey Daniel

Party: Labour

Division: Hastings - Braybrooke & Castle

Elected: 6 May 1993

I'm very grateful to the good people of Braybrooke & Castle for electing me for the fourth time.

Improving standards of education is very important to me. It is wonderful to see the new Further Education College (Sussex Coast) arise out of the ground at Station Plaza thanks to the last Labour Government's investment and faith in Hastings. The expansion of the University in the town centre is also very welcome. Secondary School standards are of concern and hopefully will be partly addressed by the introduction of two secondary Academy Schools in Hastings.

I very much support the Bexhill/Hastings link road which will improve the quality of life for so many living on the A259. At the moment, too much unnecessary traffic still has to go along the seafront.

Things are improving in Hastings and I'm keen to continue that. My area is one of the poorest in Sussex, and the Castle part of my division has the second highest rate of unemployment in Sussex.

I'll be tackling these issues by trying to stimulate regeneration in Hastings, campaigning for improved community safety and trying to lower the level of crime.
