About me: Councillor John Wilson

Councillor John Wilson

I was elected councillor for Ashdown and Conquest, Hastings, in May 2005, having been a councillor on Hastings Borough Council since 1998 and a resident since 1980.

Road safety is a priority in this area and we must address the needs of the ageing population, and that includes tackling the fear of crime.

But how did I get here?

I’m a retired electrical power engineer having spent 42 years working for a power industry distributor. I ran for council because I wanted to see changes made to the way the area was being run. I think my experience in industry will contribute to a better end product.

My community

East Sussex is a beautiful county. I want to help people to enjoy the county and find their way through the bureaucratic maze.

I find being a councillor can be frustrating as it takes too long for things to happen.

My home life

I have been married since 1967. We have three daughters, all of whom are married and three grandsons.

If you are going to be a councillor, you first have to make sure you have an understanding wife and plenty of patience yourself.

My spare time

I enjoy rearing and exhibiting pelargoniums and fuschias.
