Director of Policy and Communications – Becky Shaw

A key role for the Director of Policy and Communications is to liaise with a large variety of organisations to ensure that all of our work is joined up. Council departments, district and borough councils, the police, the NHS, voluntary organisations and many others all have a part to play in shaping the future of East Sussex.

Responsibilities include:

  • Local Area Agreement – leading the work with partner organisations across the county to deliver improved quality of life for our residents, through agreement with the Government
  • community safety – reducing crime and the fear of crime throughout East Sussex
  • communications and corporate consultation – ensuring that the council keeps the public informed about the council's priorities and services and listens to residents' views
  • strategic policy and performance management – making sure council departments work together to meet targets.
  • strategic economic development – working with other organisations to increase the prosperity of the county
  • libraries, adult education and arts – providing high-quality, customer-focused services
  • community planning – co-ordinating between council departments and outside agencies to ensure that the priorities most people feel are important to their local communities are looked at jointly
  • Travellers – working with other organisations to strike the right balance between the needs of Traveller and settled communities.
