Director of Children's Services – Matt Dunkley
Matt is responsible for children's social services, schools and childcare. He also has lead responsibility for the county council for the East Sussex Children's and Young People's Trust, and the Children's Services department. The council is the Children's Services Authority.
Areas of responsibility include:
- safeguarding children and securing delivery of the county council's corporate parenting duties
- planning and funding education for children aged three to five and planning childcare opportunities for children aged five to 13
- statutory duties in relation to children with special educational needs
- providing or ensuring sufficient school places for pupils aged five to 18
- standards in all schools funded by the Council
- liaising with the Learning and Skills Council on education for students aged 14–19
- maintaining local youth services
- support for vulnerable children and young people.
