Is there a fee?

Many requests for information will be free of charge. These would be fulfilled relatively easily by emailing you or posting paper records, and it would not make sense to bill you for very small amounts to cover postage or photocopying.

Other requests may incur a charge. These requests might for example involve substantial preparation time, or supplying publications or other material that is not normally free of charge.

Charges can be made to cover the:

  • cost of sending the information to you (such as postage and printing)
  • time taken to locate the information and send it to you – but only if this will cost more than £450 (about 2.5 days’ work).

We will tell you about any costs before we provide the information. At that time you can decide to proceed, change your request or cancel.

For full details about charges see our Freedom of Information Fees policy.
