Our equalities scheme shows how we will:
- eliminate unlawful discrimination
- promote equality of opportunity, and
- promote good community relations.
This will be our last equality scheme because the Equality Act 2010 says we no longer have to publish our objectives in this format. Our equality objectives will be published in departmental Business Plans and the Council Plan instead. We will publish an annual report on our progress, and the first report will be available by January 2012.
For more information on the equality laws that we have to follow, see our page on The Equality Act 2010.
Equality monitoring
To comply with the specific duties of the Equality Act 2010, we produce an annual equality data report that you can download below. It includes statistical information on our workforce including recruitment, promotions and staff turnover.
Equality Impact Assessments (EqIAs)
Council departments carry out equality monitoring reviews and impact assessments to make sure their policies and services do not disadvantage any one part of the community more than the rest.
You can find out how we are progressing on equality and diversity actions in the documents below.
