Policy steers

Policy steers set out the priorities for East Sussex County Council. Each Cabinet member has a designated area of responsibility that is called a portfolio, and this has its own policy steers.

You can find out the current policy steers for each portfolio by downloading 'Policy steers 2008/09'.

What they do

The policy steers guide the business planning processes of the Council and they take into account:

  • past performance and areas we know need improving
  • how legislation will affect the services we must provide
  • the findings of best value and scrutiny reviews
  • opinions of residents and businesses we have consulted with, and
  • the resources we have.

The Council Plan sets out how we will deliver the policy steers through a series of targets that are monitored for progress through the year.
