Scrutiny review of our relationship with voluntary and community groups

A review board led by the Community Services Scrutiny Committee looked at our relationship with voluntary and community groups. The board sought the views of a wide range of people, including representatives from these groups. The aim of the review was to identify how we can work together more effectively and efficiently.

Voluntary and community groups include registered charities, as well as non-charitable, non-profit and community organisations and self-help groups. Most depend on voluntary activity, though many are also professional organisations with paid staff.

The review focused on three aspects:

  • Council funding and the buying of services
  • the role of councillors working with these groups
  • the role of the Council in setting up a Local Involvement Network (LINk).

The board published an interim report on the establishment of a Local Involvement Network in July 2007 and a final report covering the remaining aspects of the review in March 2008. These reports are available to download below.
