Disabled parking bays and crossings

A disabled parking bay is a white outline on the road that lets you park close to your house. These bays aren't person-specific and can be used by anyone with a Blue Badge.

Who can get a disabled parking bay

You can apply for a bay if you have difficulty walking and:

If you get the mobility component (higher rate) of the disability allowance, you'll need to send a copy of your entitlement.

Disabled crossings (dropped kerbs)

A dropped kerb (also known as a footway crossing) is a lowered section of pavement that allows you to drive smoothly into your property.

Cost of a dropped kerb

You must pay for the work yourself – how much depends on the size needed. The work must be carried out by an approved contractor. The exact cost cannot be worked out until they have visited your property.

Applying for a dropped kerb

You need to get planning permission before applying for a dropped kerb if your property:

  • fronts onto a classified road
  • is a listed building
  • isn't for a single family (for example, flat, maisonette, commercial or industrial premises) .
