Better care, higher standards

Information about support services in health, housing and adult social care.

What is ‘Better Care, Higher Standards’?

Better Care, Higher Standards is a charter drawn up between various organisations such as adult social services, health, housing and others. The three main aims of the charter are to:

  • tell you about information and services available to you from Health, Housing and Social Services, and to signpost you to other organisations which may be able to help you
  • let you know what the standards for our services are
  • publish targets for improving the standards of our services.

The charter is based on the national Better care, higher standards charter published by the Department of Health in December 1999.

We produce an annual report on our performance against the standards in the charter.

How does it benefit me?

This charter is relevant to you if you are aged 18 or over and need support or care, or if you are a carer who is looking after someone who needs help. The charter includes information on:

  • who to contact for advice and information
  • details of services available
  • checklists so you can see whether we have done what we say we will do for you
  • standards for services you can expect from us
  • targets for improving services
  • information about how to complain or comment on our services.
