If you're trying to decide whether a permanent move into a care home is right for you, or cannot manage because your main carer is away or you are recovering from an illness, then a temporary stay could be the answer.
You might want to go to a care home for day care every day or just one or two days a week. Or, you can stay overnight in a residential home, which offer 24 hour care – some with nursing staff. These breaks are only short-term and do not usually last for longer than three months of continuous care.
For longer periods, you should consider services such as long-term residential and nursing care.
Residential respite care
There may be some circumstances where you need to leave your home for a short period of time, and might consider a residential or nursing home. Care home staff can provide support with daily tasks such as dressing, washing, eating and going to the toilet, but are not normally trained nurses. If you have a health condition requiring care, a nursing home might be a better option for you.
Day centre care
There are a number of day care and community centres in East Sussex, with various facilities and staff providing care for a few hours or the entire day. Day care centres also offer you a chance to meet other people and take part in new activities.
