Physical disability

We provide a range of services for people who have a permanent disability and find it difficult to do normal daily tasks in the home as a result. If you are disabled we will aim to help you, and those who help look after you, to live as independently as possible in your own home.

What help is available?

Our occupational therapists can visit you to look at problems you may be experiencing in your home and to help you find solutions. They are trained to be help you find different, easier ways of doing things. They can also advise on:

occupational therapy – helping you regain independence after an illness or accident, with basic skills such as getting dressed and cooking a meal.
daily living equipment – the right equipment can make a big difference. We can recommend, and in some circumstances provide, equipment.
home adaptations – alterations to your home may help you to manage important daily activities more easily, for example a ramp to your front door. We can give you advice about suitable alterations and tell you about help you could get to organise and fund the work.

How much will I have to pay?

You do not have to pay for advice, and often our equipment is loaned to you for free. Some of the other services we provide are not always free and we will ask you to pay for or contribute towards the cost.

The amount you have to pay depends on how much you can afford. We will tell you how much you will need to pay before you start to get services from us.

How do I apply?

To qualify for services you must have a permanent disability. This means you find it very difficult to do essential daily activities, for example, getting in and out of bed, or on or off the toilet. Our services are limited by the money we have available so it is not possible to help everyone who applies.
