Downlands Court, Peacehaven
Downlands Court underway
Building work is well underway at Downlands Court extra-care scheme in Peacehaven. The £6.4 million scheme was made possible thanks to funding from East Sussex Adult Social Care, Saxon Weald Homes Ltd and the Department of Health.
Who is Downlands Court for?
Downlands Court will provide 41 flats for people aged over 60 who need some extra support to continue living independently. The flats are a mix of one and two bedroom properties, some of which will be available to rent while others are for purchase.
The aim of ‘extra-care’ is to provide people with more support than traditional retirement housing, but offer far more independence than a nursing or residential home.
Everyone has the privacy of their own self-contained flat, and can choose how much they join in with the activities. However, there is a 24-hour care team on site together with a host of other facilities such as an emergency alarm system, secure courtyard garden and electric buggy charging.
A restaurant serving a range of hot and cold meals, a hairdresser, a small shop and a special bath for assisted bathing are also planned for the scheme – all of which will be available to people living in the area.
What services will be available?
Downlands Court will also offer day activities for tenants and the local community, specialist support for those with dementia, and space for clinical treatments. Other health facilities, such as a memory clinic and falls service will be available for residents and older people in the local community.
Flats should be ready for occupation in early summer 2009.
