In the past, one of the only options for home-delivered meals was the Meals on Wheels service. Today, there are a number of providers who deliver meals to your door and offer easy solutions for preparing meals at home.
Applying for subsidised ‘Meals on Wheels'
Anyone can order from the list of suppliers below, but you will only be entitled to receive subsidised meals (from our provider Apetito) if you are eligible for care services from us.
Types of meals at home services
Home delivered meals
Pre-prepared meals can usually be delivered hot (on the day you want to eat them) or frozen (on a weekly basis), so you can heat them up yourself. Some companies may even lend you appliances to heat or freeze your meals. People with particular dietary needs can have special meals such as diabetic, vegetarian, gluten free, kosher or halal.
The price of home-delivery meal providers varies, it's a good idea to get quotes from a few different companies before you make your mind up – ask to see some menus and for a trial meal if possible and check the companies policies regarding food safety and nutrition, client welfare and your security.

Supermarket ready-meals
Supermarkets have a large range of frozen and chilled ready meals. Many of the larger chains deliver to your home – you can order and pay through their websites. Once you've signed up it's very easy to re-order your favourite meals.
Supermarkets charge anything between £2 and £6 for delivering groceries – sometimes free for large orders.
Your local convenience store might also be able to help – it's always worth checking.
Getting help with meals at home
You can also ask someone to help you with meal preparation for a few hours a week. The help from a personal assistant, for example, could range from shopping, getting ingredients ready, or even cooking and freezing food for you.
