Four new homes – the 'Age Well' project
The 'Age Well – East Sussex' project aims to improve care for older people by developing a range of services and supporting more people in their own homes.
Plans for each care home
Four existing homes will be replaced with new buidings. These homes are:
The new buildings will be designed to support a range of specialist residential, residential with nursing care, respite and day services. The design will promote social inclusion, contribute to the local communities and enhance the local environment.
Each building will accommodate between 44 and 48 residents.
About the Age Well Project
The project was established following a full consultation and review of County Council residential homes for older people.
A separate Age Well consultation took place in late 2005 as the project proposals were being developed. Further reviews may affect services in the interim, and help determine the mix of services to be provided in the new buildings.
We have secured funding in principle. More information can be found in the Abbreviated Outline Business Case, please read the disclaimer download before viewing the OBC.
When will it happen?
In February 2008 we advertised the contract for the work in the Official Journal of the European Union.
We have since narrowed down the list of potential contractors to just two – one of these will be awarded a 25 year contract which will include designing, building and maintaining the four buildings.
The building work should begin in early 2010 with completion the following year for the Hastings and Uckfield sites. The Ringmer site is likely to be completed in 2012.
