Hearing aids

A hearing aid makes sounds louder so that you are able to hear them more clearly. You would normally wear them around one or both ears, depending on your hearing.

How can I get one?

Firstly, you need to get your ears checked by a doctor or with an Ears, nose and throat consultant. They will examine you to see if you have a hearing loss and whether you would benefit from wearing a hearing aid.

Hearing aids are free through the NHS. If your doctor or consultant recommends you use a hearing aid, the audiology department at your local hospital will provide one for you free of charge. This will be on long-term loan.

If you prefer to buy one privately visit the RNID website for more information.
