Considerate Contractor scheme
Considerate Contractor scheme logo
Considerate Contractors is a scheme to encourage contractors carrying out work on the public highway to work safely, consistently and considerately.
The aim of the scheme is to improve the general standard of work and minimise disruption to passing pedestrians and road users.
How does the scheme work?
We have developed a 'Code of Good Practice' outlining the standards required. It states that contractors should be:
- Caring – the work will be safe. Consideration must be given to the public and local businesses. Special attention will be given to people with sight, hearing and mobility difficulties.
- Clean – roads and pavements to be kept tidy and safe. All equipment to be kept clean and neat.
- Considerate – noise and dust are to be kept to a minimum. Wherever possible works will be carried out when they will have the least impact on local people.
- Co-operative - the contractor will deal with any problems in a friendly, polite and co-operative manner.
Contractors pay a yearly membership fee and agree to meet the standards of the scheme. They display the Considerate Contractor signs and stickers on their sites.
Inspectors visit contractor sites all over East Sussex. Each site will be judged and scored against the 'Code of Good Practice' above.
At the end of the year we add up the scores and present awards to the contractors and individuals who have proved themselves to be a 'Considerate Contractor'.
