Concessionary travel schemes – eligible older or disabled people
Free bus travel in England
If you are a senior citizen aged 60 or over or registered disabled, you may be entitled to free off-peak bus travel throughout England. To benefit, you will need a concessionary travel pass, which must be shown to the bus driver on each journey.
The rules for older people have changed and are now connected to the pensionable age for women. See your local district or borough council website, below, for details.
The concessionary bus scheme is managed by your local district or borough council. For further details, including how to apply, contact:
Nationally, off-peak travel is anytime between 9.30am and 11pm Monday to Friday, and all day at weekends and bank holidays. However, all the borough and district councils in East Sussex allow you to travel from 9am within your own borough or district.
Hastings Borough and Rother District Councils also allow passengers with passes issued by other boroughs and districts to travel within their boundaries from 9am too, although this is not the case for the other councils.
