Lewes parking – changes to controls, 31 March 2008
Changes to the way that parking enforcement is controlled in Lewes district came into effect on 31 March 2008. These changes will help to make parking enforcement more transparent and aim to provide a consistent approach to parking enforcement across the country.
What has changed?
- There are now two levels of penalty charges depending on the severity of the parking offence.
- The lower penalty in Lewes district is £50 (reduced to £25 if paid within 14 days).
- The higher penalty in Lewes district is £70 (reduced to £35 if paid within 14 days).
- It is no longer essential for a parking ticket (Penalty Charge Notice) to be placed on a vehicle or handed to a driver in order for it to be properly served. If a Civil Enforcement Officer (formerly known as a Parking Attendant), for whatever reason, is unable to serve the parking ticket it may be posted to the registered keeper/owner of the vehicle.
- If a vehicle is driven away before the ticket is issued, it may be posted to the registered keeper of the vehicle.
