Plans to improve information about buses
Our public transport information aims to promote the use of public transport as an alternative to the car, and attract visitors to East Sussex.
We work with bus operators to decide what local bus information is needed and the best way to make it available. We co-ordinate the publishing of information on local bus services and aim to meet the needs of different groups, including:
- local residents and businesses
- those with physical, hearing, visual and/or learning disabilities
- schools, colleges and universities
- local health facilities – hospitals and clinics
- tourists and visitors.

Information and timetables
Information and timetables must be:
- accurate and current
- accessible and easy to understand by all public transport users.
We compile and update information for a regional travel service called Traveline. Traveline provides timetable information and a complete door-to-door journey planner for bus journeys and for combined bus and rail journeys.

Real-time bus information
We are working towards providing real-time information for bus passengers at major bus stops across the county. Real-time bus information is currently available:
- at fourteen bus stops in Eastbourne
- along the A259 between Brighton and Seaford.
We are hoping to put in place a real-time bus information system for Hastings, by 2010. Other future plans to improve bus passenger information include providing personalised bus journey details by mobile phone.
Bus route maps
In 2007, we produced a new leaflet showing bus routes across the whole county, including detailed town centre maps. The leaflet also lists the frequency and days of operation of bus services.
