Annual progress report 2004

We made considerable progress in implementing the Local Transport Plan (LTP) during 2003–04. We have carried out over 400 transport schemes, including:

  • 2 bus priority schemes
  • 47 road crossings
  • 11 local road schemes
  • 214 maintenance schemes
  • 40 bus infrastructure schemes
  • 17 local safety schemes
  • 10 travel plans
  • 22 cycling schemes
  • 29 traffic calming and traffic management schemes.

We have made excellent progress towards achieving both the national core transport targets and the local East Sussex targets. Seventy-eight per cent (7 out of 9) of the national core targets and 89% (24 out of 27) of the local targets are on track to be achieved. We are also on track to meet the national road accident reduction targets two years early.

Our LTP has also been improved through the development of an updated Road hierarchy review, new strategies for Freight and School Travel Plans, new supplementary planning guidance on developer contributions, and a new local area transport strategy for Heathfield.

We have also started work on developing the next LTP. LTP2 will be submitted to central government in July 2005, and we are currently consulting widely to establish the transport priorities for the next plan.
