Funding

Funding for transport schemes is secured from:

When funding is secured at the beginning of the year, a timetable of planned works is drawn up. We take into account the strategy and objectives of the Local Transport Plan.

Schemes are prioritised through an appraisal process. We take into account schemes that will best contribute to our Local Transport Plan targets, such as sustainable economic growth and the best value for money.

The scheduling of works is also affected by the design process and works that are funded by development contributions.

The programme is approved in March each year by the Lead Member for Economy, Transport and Environment.

Local Sustainable Transport Fund

We are developing bids to apply for funding through the Department for Transport's (DfT) Local Sustainable Transport Fund (LSTF).

The LSTF has been set up to encourage local transport authorities to develop sustainable transport solutionsaround walking, cycling and public transport. The aim of the fund is to support local economic development and reduce carbon from transport.

We are putting together a solo bid and leading on a collaborative bid. We are also taking part in two partnership bids for smaller scale projects. The projects would cover a four year period from 2012 to 2015.

For details of each bid submitted in June 2011, see:
