Tourism without Traffic
The Tourism without Traffic project was carried out between 2001–2006, in partnership with the South Downs Joint Committee (formerly the Sussex Downs Conservation Board).
The aim of the project was to:
- create an alternative transport network to the car
- reduce the impact of traffic and create a more attractive environment for walking and cycling
- promote green tourism.
What we achieved
Project highlights include:
- improved bus services to popular countryside sites
- new cycle racks and cycle rings
- new marketing materials and improvements to online information with the Visit South Downs website
- seminars for local accommodation businesses to learn about the needs of visitors arriving by public transport, bike and foot.
