Road transport is the largest source of air pollution in built-up areas. Business mileage contributes to this pollution, as well as to local congestion and other traffic problems.
Congestion on our roads:
- causes delays and health problems
- can cost businesses money
- causes damage to the environment.

Cycling and walking
We are committed to developing transport options in East Sussex and encouraging people to find ways they can get about without a car.
A 'walking bus' is a scheme where parents walk a group of children to school along a set route. Children are collected along the route and escorted safely into the school. See the school transport pages.
Cycling can help to keep you fit as well as being a cheap and convenient way to get around. Find out about routes and rides in our cycling pages.
