What is Ancestry?

Ancestry is the leading online resource for family history research. It includes records from the UK, USA and Canada and other international sources. Use our computers to find:

  • census, birth, marriage and death records
  • military, immigration, court and probate information
  • BT telephone directories from 1880 to 1984
  • newspapers and biographies
  • photos and maps.

You can also search nearly 400 million names on the Ancestry World Tree and download charts to help record your research so far and create a family tree.

Use Ancestry in your library

To use our computers just bring along some identification or your library card if you are a member. You don’t need to book but we recommend it to make sure you get a place.
