Makaton is a unique way to teach communication, language and literacy skills to children and adults with communication and learning difficulties.
What is Makaton?
Makaton users are first encouraged to communicate using signs. Then gradually as a link is made between the word and the sign, the signs are dropped and speech takes over.
Makaton symbols support the written word, in the same way that signs support speech. The symbols are specially designed black and white pictures illustrating the meaning of the words we use.
