How to get the pack

When your child is aged 36–48 months, their nursery, playgroup or pre-school will give them a free treasure box of books.

Learn about joining one of these groups in childcare and early years.

If your child doesn’t go to one of these groups, please bring your child's health record book to collect the pack at your local library.

What the pack contains

The pack includes two picture books, a set of stickers, a colouring pad, coloured pencils, guidance material for parents and carers, information about libraries and an invitation to join your local library.

Books in other languages

Some books are written in English and a second language. These are called dual-language books. Please ask if you would like some in your pack.

We have these books in the following languages – Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, French, Hindu, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish.

  • 'The Little Red Hen and the Grains of Wheat'
  • 'Handa's Surprise'
  • 'Floppy'

Visually impaired children

If your child is visually impaired, ask for a Book Touch pack.

Activities for young children at libraries

It’s free to join the library and there are lots of activities and help for young children and their parents and carers. Libraries are fun and we offer extra books and storytelling sessions for playgroups and childminders.
