How to get the pack

When your toddler reaches 18–30 months old, your health visitor will give them a second Bookstart pack at their two-year check.

If your toddler doesn’t have this check up for any reason, you can collect a pack from your local library after your child's second birthday. Please bring along your child's health record book.

What the pack contains

The pack includes two books, a colouring pad and crayons, a booklist and guidance material for parents and carers, information about libraries and an invitation to join your local library.

Books in other languages

Some books are written in English and a second language. These are called dual-language books. Please ask if you would like some in your pack.

We have these books in the following languages – Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, French, Hindu, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish.

  • 'Dear Zoo'
  • 'Walking through the Jungle'
  • 'Wheels on the Bus'

Visually impaired children

If your child is visually impaired, ask for a Book Touch pack.

Activities for toddlers at libraries

It’s free to join the library and there are lots of activities and help for toddlers and their parents and carers. Libraries are fun and we don’t mind noisy children enjoying our books and events.
