How to get the pack

Parents are given a Bookstart pack by your health visitor at your baby’s 7–9 month assessment.

What the pack contains

The pack includes free books, information about libraries and an invitation to join the library, advice on sharing books and a nursery rhyme placemat.

Books in other languages

Some books are written in English and a second language. These are called dual-language books. Please ask if you would like some in your pack.

We have these books in the following languages – Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, French, Hindu, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish and Turkish.

  • 'Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes'
  • 'Jungle Animals'
  • 'Sleepyhead'

Visually impaired children

If your child is visually impaired, ask for a Book Touch pack.

Activities for babies at libraries

It’s free to join the library and there are lots of activities and help for babies, their parents and carers. Libraries are fun so don't worry about your baby making a noise or chewing books – we don't mind.
