How to get the pack

When your child is aged 36 months, their nursery, playgroup or pre-school will give them a free treasure bag of books.

Learn about joining one of these groups in childcare and early years.

If you live in East Sussex but your child doesn't go to these groups, you can order a treasure bag by contacting our Bookstart Project Manager.

What the pack contains

The pack includes two picture books, a set of stickers, a colouring pad, coloured pencils, guidance material for parents and carers, information about libraries and an invitation to join your local library.

Books in other languages

Some books are written in English and a second language. These are called dual-language books. Please ask if you would like some in your pack.

We have these books in the following languages – Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Farsi, French, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hindi, Italian, Kurdish, Polish, Portuguese, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil, Turkish, Urdu and Vietnamese.

Visually impaired children

If your child is visually impaired, ask for a Booktouch pack.

Hearing impaired children

If your child is hearing impaired, ask for a Bookshine pack.

Activities for young children at libraries

It's free to join the library and there are lots of activities and help for young children and their parents and carers. Libraries are fun and we offer extra books and storytelling sessions for playgroups and childminders.

You can also share books, stories and rhymes online by joining the national Bookstart Bear Club.
