Talking books and large print

Talking books

Stuck in a traffic jam or bored with ironing? Why not try one of our talking books?

We have a wide range of fiction and non-fiction books on cassette and CD. You can borrow up to six talking books for three weeks. Children’s story tapes are free, and there is a small charge for other items.

Search for and reserve talking books, and ask for them to be sent to your nearest library for collection, on our E-library online catalogue.

Large print

You can read bestselling fiction and non-fiction in large print. We also have large print books for children.

We regularly circulate these books around the libraries in the county, so everyone has a chance to borrow a wide range of titles.

Services for people with a sensory impairment

If you are unable to use books in a conventional format because of a visual or physical impairment, you may be able to join our free talking book service.

Apply for a catalogue at your local library. Select your favourite authors and subjects from the list and we will send the talking books to your nearest library in packages of two or three stories at a time, for you or a volunteer to collect.

Check to see if a book you want to read is published in an alternative format – such as cassette or CD – by searching the RNIB library catalogue.
