Around 75,000 dedicated and inspirational people from across the country will be helping during the Games as volunteers.
Games Makers
If you successfully applied to be a ‘Games Maker' you'll be helping in a wide variety of roles at the official London 2012 venues, hotels, airports and ports, and other support areas.
- Generalist roles include stewards, radio operators and athlete escorts.
- Specialist roles include doctors, nurses, sports specialists, doping control officers and press staff.
- Young Games Makers are groups of young volunteers aged 16 to 18 from schools, colleges, clubs or community groups.
You must volunteer for a minimum of 10 days during the Games and attend at least three days of training from February 2012.
- Orientation training, February to July 2012
- Role-specific training, February to July 2012
- Leadership training for team leaders, March to June 2012
- Venue training, April to August 2012

Volunteer performers for opening and closing ceremonies
Rehearsals have already started if you're one of the 10,000 volunteers chosen to be dancers, actors, percussionists and general performers in the opening and closing ceremonies of the Games.
There will be two or three rehearsals in the evening or weekends each week from March 2012, and all day rehearsals in the three weeks leading up to each ceremony.
